Blood of Vol

The Blood of Vol

In ancient times the elven noble house of Vol was struck down by their brethren, resulting in the scattering of its servants and supporters far beyond the island home of the elves. These refuges brought with them the elven faith, but with different perspective based on the uncompromising spillage of the blood of house Vol they had witnessed. The faith has since spread to many cities and different races, but continues to honor the loss of house Vol. Teaching that divinity is to be sought within each individual, Seekers focus on finding inner strength and the godliness contained in the blood of mortals. Revelation comes not from divine powers, but by individual pursuits such as personal mediation, achievement of physical strength, or arcane study. Looked down upon by those still under the illusions about gods promoted by other faiths and feared due to their willingness to overcome death, the Blood of Vol is often seen as a dark and grim faith. House Vol was destroyed in no small part due to fear of the bloodline’s possession of the Mark of Death, and Seekers have a long history holding necromancy and the powers of the undead up in reverence instead of fear. Having been declared the state religion of the nation of Karrnath for much of the Last War, the Blood of Vol continues to be very influential despite the current king’s efforts to distance the state from the faith. The Blood’s involvement in Karrnath’s use of undead armies during the Last War has done little to reassure its detractors, yet many natives hold that without the support of the Blood of Vol the nation would have fallen.
